Herpes Zoster
Herpes zoster, better known as “shingles”, is an inflammation of a spinal ganglia.
This condition is characterized by small clusters of vesicles or blisters along the pathway of the sensory nerves, most frequently around one side of the lower chest from posterior to anterior midline.
Pain is usually burning, persistent and intense. After about one week the lesions crust. There is no known drug therapy for treatment other than analgesics and sedatives for relief of pain. Menthol camphor or calamine lotion applications are sometimes helpful.
